QUOTE(IamMagic @ Oct 22 2021, 01:30 AM)
this community sometimes really baffles me

1. Boit is hosting this SM with his own money, he didn't stream it live because we have connection issues, why should he let someone else cast it? he's the one paying us to play because he enjoys casting the games - if anything, you asking someone to pay for a showmatch and have it casted for you is the definition of selfish.

2. With regards to us splitting, honestly even if we did, it makes no difference. I care far more about winning than I care about the money, maybe 10 years ago $300 would have meant a lot to me but it doesn't anymore. FYI just due to not having the motivation to play I turned down a $300 SM this Sunday.

The only thing money does for me is makes me serious, whereas ladder game/streams I don't really put my full focus in

This community really has a way of ostracizing the people who do the most for them, Boit has probably been the most instrumental force in promoting activity and positivity on AOT and you give him poopie over something stupid
*

The King has spoken.

Live would have been probably better, but who cares in the end, I just want to see good matches between two good players, recs or live does not make much of a difference if you think about it.

By the way, waiting 6 DAYS to see the recs is way too much though, this is the only thing that bothered me.

Pretty much this.

The way I see it, boit can do whatever boit wants to do since he was the one organizing it and paying for it. If it was a community-funded event that got switched at the last moment then maybe I could see some people being peeved, but even then it's pretty meh. Others in this community are free to contribute anytime, we will be waiting.

Until then, enjoy the content guys. :flowers:

watching it live with friends on call/talking in twitch chat is a much better experience than watching a recorded cast

why don't you do that anyway? A casted recorded game is the same thing as a casted live game. The only thing missing is player chat, but does that really matter, it's not like we'll miss out on some Jerry Springer drama in the player chat (it's all in this thread). On the up-side, you get a streamlined set of matches without any disconnections, lag breaks, or 15 minute shower breaks.

but don't let the vocal hating minority here get you down boit. haters gonna hate, it's what they do
lovers gonna love
now everyone come get your hugs

Putting the bs inside.

I respect magic and mista as top players.
I also respect them compectivty.
But i suspect that they dont play them best when money being splitted.
Just like magic said money makes him play more serously.
So i soppuse that if he needs win for get this money it will much more motivaite him than the other scenerio where he just needs to play for earn it.

The ambush to boit is unfair. But we must put things on the table.

You host a "dream showmatch" with 2 best players
Due to networks issues it cant be casted in real time wich is understandable

In my opinion the choice to cast it later on private chanel
Instead of let someone else cast it prime time is 100% right.
The community needs understand that there are no free meals here.
Boit is a caster and just like netflix wouldnt sell her stuff to other streamers site just because on netflix is able only on lower quility to watch.
I dont expect boit to let anyone else cast it.
But i expect of some orginaze from the communoty it self to host showmatchs and bring casters.

Me personaly would never ever pay 300 dollar to magic and mista for watch them play. But if there people who will then do it.

Apart from the obvious (it was Boits money and he doesnt owe you anything) I dont even understand the problem. Nobody has seen the games, so what is the difference between casting them live or a week later on stream?

Overall, Boit is doing this for himself and his content to do with as he wants.

There is a second aspect worth talking about though, and that is a commentary in general on the overall atmosphere and approach - from community point of view, this constant and really comparatively rather large support of people who are not here because of/for the community (which is not really something terrible, they just in better case come around to play the game with no strings attached for fun, just the importance assigned to it by the community is completely off) with their presence here basically regularly looking like going to an ATM is not really healthy. Same as that the community life effectively stops when they come around once in a while, of course always to leave again later at their convenience, with this cycle being established and clear, yet that somehow doesn't click for people. And in that time they generally receive more support and attention (in all its shapes) than everyone else combined during the time when they weren't around. Sure has to feel great for all the people actually doing or trying to do something for the community, or being here regularly and all the time, shaping the game and meta, keeping it alive, so that those guys have something to come back to, how motivating that all is when after all the activity, streams, tournaments, games, efforts, they see largely nothing in return besides maybe some omnipresent toxicity discouraging them from everything and some people just get freebies for nothing - I'm glad some of them enjoy the game enough to be here no matter what, but that doesn't make it any less weird.

Where's the support for those people? Where's the hype for them? People who are more relevant for the game, and damn good players as well you can marvel at? Where's the support for matreiuss? Where's the support for Joe? Where's the support for tons of others? Domantas anyone? ULysses? Back when active Brickhead? Shelty? Player? You can line a list of names of players who have been more important for this community than someones who just come around once or a few times a year. It's cool to have someone like Mista around to show some different insight, but that's that, it's a nice, fleeting, entertainment, it doesn't do much for the community, because that's not even the goal, and that's okay.

They are living off their fame (mostly deserved), propped up by other people hyping them up sometimes for personal reasons, sometimes thinking they're doing something good for the community, sometimes wanting to make profit off them just by proximity.

It's just disproportional with other goings on in the community, and it's not healthy for us, the community. It's kind of looking like the embodiment of the hope for better tomorrows, or wish for past to come around again, instead of focusing on the now, and working with and on that.

Plus, they are currently here because they want to get in shape for Age of Empires IV, so let's see what's going to happen then.

Obviously I hope aoe4 does well, but I remember clearly how hyped everyone was for aoe3 and how it was death for aom….and we know how that ended.

Can't argue with that!

Of course there is a certain romance connected to live broadcasting games! But let the man do as he pleases, to suggest otherwise is the worst form of criticism. Looking at youtube, only a few scrubs from this site are whining about it, most people are happy with the effort. And so am I (your king).

Boit put up the money, its his choice. If he wants to do this for views and the promotion of his channel thats up to him and there isn't an issue with that.

Who honestly cares. Why am I posting on RTSS
