So, I've been wanting a Mac for a while (I know, how hipster of me)and I'm tired of Windows. But I'm not going to shell out £1000 for a mediocre spec laptop, so I'm looking to Install OSX on my laptop. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any success doing it or even attempted to do it, as I cant find much info regarding the risks associated with installing it.

Just as a notice, the OSX install disc will be legit and not pirated.

It's not like I'm going to start wearing a fedora.

I've tried Ubuntu and a few others, I wasn't too keen on them to be honest. :(

Which distribution are you talking about?

I've tried the big 3, Ubuntu, Fedora and Debian. Then just gave up.

I'm not sure what you mean with "distribution" but:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux
QUOTE
The development of Linux is one of the most prominent examples of free and open source software collaboration; typically all the underlying source code can be used, freely modified, and redistributed, both commercially and non-commercially, by anyone under licenses such as the GNU General Public License. Typically Linux is packaged in a format known as a Linux distribution for desktop and server use. Some popular mainstream Linux distributions include Debian (and its derivatives such as Ubuntu), Fedora and openSUSE. Linux distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting utilities and libraries to fulfill the distribution's intended use.

A distribution of Linux is an OS that uses the Linux kernel. Linux is not an OS just the base at which OS's are developed from.

All the ones I have mentioned previously are Linux (Made with the Linux kernel).

I don't want to modify Linux, I would of named the thread "Modifying Linux Distributions" If that was the case. But I want to try OSX without having to sell a kidney.

And thanks for trying to help, but trying to help someone with something you aren't too familiar with usually results in confusion.
