I think that in tournament whats takes the win is the preparetion/surprise element.
It has nothing to do with "real skill"

At least in pandora box.
The one who comes with his own best meta wins.
Idont realy know what makes people think that shadowfax knows/play the game better. Than gss.
The win vs gas can only proove that gsa is not the tip top god perfect player aot ever knew 11

It just comes down to what a person defines as skill. For me:

Preparing well and coming with a good gameplan to win = skill

Playing the same god 1000x on the same map, doing the same thing? just repetitive mechanics, not much skill

AoM isn't a hard game to play well, assuming the player is just doing a simple but effective strategy that's good in most situations. 2 TC RA FH? Yep. Oranos barracks counter barracks spam? Yep. To some extent, there's really not much strategy required in AoM.

It's definately a different skill, but skill non the less.

Understanding the depth of a matchup on a certain map through 100s of games versus theory crafting strategies and executing with only 5-10 games.

I remember when I was a mega noob, realistically 1550 rr, I would beat 1700+ players just by playing Loki and doing the same thing over and over. I would just advance to classical, build some hersir, aq dwarves forever, go heroic pretty fast and go all in FW on their 2nd gold mine.

I would beat players like dragon and jao and get over 1700 but I would lose vs 1600 every time when I tried playing greeks. I would also lose vs rushes or classical fight eggy or pretty much anything that I couldn't use my loki strat on.
I imagine it's similar for Ora and Ra players.

Nowadays, I play all kinds of gods but I still struggle with the strategy. If I can identify a winning strategy, I can often win vs stronger players. But a lot of the time I just go for the wrong strat lose based on that, not micro or macro skills or something else.

So we don't really know how gss would respond to suppe's bullpoopie in tournaments. That guy has a unique strat for every map and matchup. What does he do vs Suppe's kronos on one of those new maps? We don't really know how he would adjust.

We saw the same in the recent Suppe vs Kimo match. Kimo is a top players because he practices and perfects his builds and strats to a tee. But he got outplayed by suppe and his shenanigans because he faced something new he wasn't familiar with.

This is why I think retold should have a procedurally generated map as default (like mega random). It will show which players are the best strategy game players, not necessarily the most practiced and the most optimized players.
