StarCraft II Interview: _H2O By [A-USi]James246 June 2010 General Name: Ryan Mancl Date of Birth: 6/29/90 Location: Illinois, USA StarCraft II Beta Username: Ruthless.ryanmancl Other gaming Usernames: _H2O Can you give us a brief description about yourself? I’m going to be a Junior in college next year, I study electrical engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. When did you first get into online gaming, especially the StarCraft series? Online gaming started for me when I was twelve playing Age of Empires 2 casually. I was always too afraid to play in rated room 1! Starcraft started for me about 2 years ago. I watched Starcraft 1 VODS as entertainment with great appreciation for their mechanical skills. Then I got into the beta towards the end of February. How did you come about choosing your nickname? Blizzard doesn’t allow numbers or underscores, so I had to choose a new name. I felt like Ruthless was a great name from the first time I saw it, so I decided to take it. What is your favourite RTS game? Probably Starcraft2 so far I have played this game more than I have played any other game. I also love age of empires 3 and age of empires 2 as they were the games I grew up with and became known for. Do you play any other online games? I used to play Call of Duty for fun but no time now that SC2 is here. StarCraft II What do you currently think of the StarCraft II Beta? I think it is a really solid game, it’s not quite as good as the first game, but it’s hard to top perfection hehe. How do you think the game will go at launch? I think it will be a huge success, so far there has been more tournaments, show matches, and other events for SC2 than I have ever seen for a game. Across Europe and Asia there are at least 4 weekly tournaments, along with weekly show matches and team leagues. Some of my real life friends have also played the game and are really enjoying it. It seems SC2 has something for everyone. What is your favourite race and why? Zerg is my favorite race. I like them the most because they feel like they require the most mechanics and because I like to multitask, something Z is good for I think. What is your least favourite race and why? I don’t really like P because of the amount of cheeses they have :D. Can you describe your StarCraft II play style? I am a macro oriented player. What are your strengths and weaknesses? My strength is my mechanics, my weakness is in build orders. Any tips to a new StarCraft II player? When I started SC2 I had no idea what I was doing. After each game I played I watched the replay, not trying too hard to learn everything from one replay, but more to get in the back of my mind what things meant. I think the best think would be to play a lot and take 2-3 minutes after each game to watch the replay to really get a lot out of your games. How often have you been playing the StarCraft II Beta? Since SC2 Beta I havn’t had much time to relax. I save all of the replays from my games so I’ll just give you some numbers. I have played and average 18 games of Starcraft every day for the past 85 days :). What do you think about the constant server resets? I don’t mind losing my ladder information, but losing my Real ID friends is a pain. I suppose they have to reset the server to fix all the bugs that kept happening with people’s log ins. Are you looking forward to July 27th 2010 (release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty)? Yes I am looking forward to it, although I am not too sure it will change much for me since I am already playing quite a bit. Sanctuary When and why did you join Sanctuary? I joined in November 2005, I had just started playing age of empires 3 and I really wanted to be a competitive player so I came looking for information. How often do you visit Sanctuary, and what for? I still stop by occasionally just to browse and maybe post if I have something helpful to add, or maybe to tease emil a bit. What is your favourite thing about Sanctuary and why? I really like the replay system that AgeSanctuary has, it grabs all the relevant information and displays it in a really nice format. The show winner button is nice too, although way too tempting to click in advance, for me atleast. What is your least favourite thing about Sanctuary and why? ZutaZuta being staff is pretty Are you excited as much as we are for the launch of RTS-Sanctuary? [Please note this interview was done before the launch of RTSS] Yes, The site looks great, It will be a great niche community for former Age of players who are playing Starcraft 2 now. Who is your favourite member and staff member? ZutaZuta has to be my favorite staff member, hes a lot of fun to talk with and does his job well. My favorite members have to be the Mario brothers, Mayh3m and Samwise12. The person behind the player What have you got planned for your future life? I plan to get my degree and get to work, hopefully for IBM. What is your daily schedule? Now it is holidays so I don’t really have a daily schedule, but when I have school I usually am busy with classwork on the weekdays and parties on the weekend. Do you have any brothers, sisters or partners? Do then play online games as well? I have a sister she doesn’t play online games but she show her friends how to play halo I have heard. Have you attended any StarCraft II Beta Gaming Events? Yes I play in as many cash events as I can, I did pretty well in most of them. I usually make it to the round of 32 or better. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Playing Starcraft and hanging out with friends. What kind of computer do you have (graphics card, processor, mouse, keyboard etc.)? Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz 3.2 GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ mx518 mouse Qsenn DT-35 Keyboard What is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing before you go to sleep? Shower and make sure my alarm is set properly. What is your most embarrassing moment? That time I lost to samwise and he ended up getting the Age of Empires hat. I really wanted that hat! What has been the best moment in your life to date? I guess one of my best moments was my WCG performance. It was a lot of fun the whole way through. Quick Questions Favourite SC2 Map? Blistering Sands Favourite SC2 Race? Zerg Favourite SC2 Unit? Hydra Favourite SC2 Strategy? 14 pool 15 hatch Favourite TV Show?Supernatural Favourite Movie? Favourite Food? Totally agree with this one, always look for what you can improve in your recordings, and if you see a mistake that keeps popping up every game, try to fix it asap. Nice interview. |
