Pregame note- Honestly, I only played against Normal AI oponents in skirmish for about only 2-4 times, as Chaos and Eldar. Never actually played any rts in online either. Since I picked up DoW2, I only played campaign and The Last Stand, while watching tons of replays. To sum it up, this is my first game against human opponent. I also havent picked any race specifically to get serious, and pretty much unaware of all races tiering and pro/cons. In-Game self analysis One thing I realised is Im pretty blurry about hotkeys and unit abilities, while absolutely horrid in mechanics. So i picked Nids, since i *just * watched a Nid replay a few minutes ago and felt like trying them. Went Lictor since i knew HT is slow and I`m afraid of being kited, and not sure how to play Ravener, end up picking Lictor Alpha. Proceeded the game with Gaunt spam early. Early game- I felt Im doing decent here, since unit count is low and there are not much things to watch about. However, I think Im overexpending on Unit upgrade, esp on Termagaunts. Mid game- Pretty much where i start to suck. Despite nids` number, I fail at flanking , kiting, and even utilising Lictor`s stealth potential. I`m pretty sure I lost most of little skirmishes, but I kept VP secured just in case. I realised my opponent is blobbing his army, so kept a little squad away for VPs. Late game-epitome of my defeat. late AV units, fail Tyrant Guard usage, and of course unit positioning. Conclusion: Most of the time, I panicked abit whenever I saw his entire army moving together. I split my army for VP instead, so I dont know if that was actually a good thing or not. Moreover, my bad resource management, unit selection and timing is my biggest weakness. and lack of cover usage. Im hoping of searching a mentor once I got some grip on my mental finesse. For future reference, you'll get more responses on this particular forum posting your losses than your wins. First things first, read this: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php...or-surviving-MP Now, on to more specific feedback. Save your Flesh hooks. I got the impression you just fired it off whenever it recharged. With the increase on recharge time to the ability, that's not an effective option. It's best saved for when you can outright kill a unit, or to pull a retreating unit back into your melee troops for the kill. You could have killed that warlock in the beginning if you had just attacked him as normal with your LA, and waiting to hook when he retreated. That way, you would have pulled him into your troops rather than away from them. Second, don't invest so much into hormies and termies. While they are certainly excellent when used properly, you really only want to have three (2 of one kind and one of another). Purchasing more tends to merely delay you from getting more powerful untis quicker. Invest in power and grab a warrior brood or ravener instead. On that note, Barbed Strangler was not a good choice for your warriors in this match up. BS does very little damage, and is really only good for the suppression it supplies. With the number of guardians he fielded, you would have been better off charging them into the fray with your gaunts. Later getting them the adrenal upgrade would have also made them anti-vehicle for use against the falcon. Third, Zoanthropes are incredibly cost INEFFECTIVE. I am told they are great for their healing aura, but I generally find them too overpriced...especially because they are one of (if not THE) easiest tier two units in the game to kill. Finally, I thought the silverback (tyrant guard) was a good choice for this match, but you need to use him correctly. Aside from the carnifex, the silverback is the only unit that can tank damage. You should have pulled him up to aid your army the moment he came out. Later, instead of marching him sneakily around the back, you should have pulled him out first to draw fire in the center. Then, use his charge ability to trample the gobs of guardians all bunched in the same place. Also remember that he can pull into his shell to heal. During that time, his armor switches to vehicle type, and he is rather impervious to small arms fire (like guardians and falcon). Just watch out for AV weapons when he's in shell mode. |

It's a killer properly used. Fragile no doubt, but the synergy with melee tyranid units is undeniable. |
