Eggy Unit Composition vs Greek Lategame

I was reviewing some of my losses recently and found that I struggle as Eggy vs Greek in lategame situations, specifically with unit composition.


Let me try to describe the dilemma. The first issue is how to counter Heliopolis? Because heliopolis is very strong, I do not feel it is correct to make chariots in lategame. The other migdol units, Camel and Elephant, are countered very well by Podromos, and Podromos are also very strong against siege weapons (whether catapults or siege towers). This leaves me wanting to make spearmen, which are good vs. helipolis and cavalry. There is, however, a big problem with making spearmen, because they don't do very well vs hoplites or toxotes. I often make a combination of spearmen and camels, but this is quite demanding on the economy and also means there is no good counter to infantry/Myrmidons.


Second problem: what to do about colossi? Let's assume access to Nepthys priests. Mummys do not live very long, especially if Bellerophon is around, and making priests is expensive and also takes up valuable pop space which could be spent on army which can actually kill things other than colossi.


Yes, I understand mercenaries are strong, but it is quite draining on the economy to make them continuously, and merc cav are now less effective against heliopolis. Plus, it still seems that whatever non-mercenary units I make get shredded by greek army.


Any advice would be much appreciated.

Spearmen, very strong unit, 2 population and has bonus vs seige I think horus spearmen are also better than hoplites and maybe even toxotes. and many towers to kill him hypaspist. priest vs colossi. cheers whim.

Thanks, that's helpful. Now my question is, let's assume we're playing Isis and so have no access to Horus. Is it still viable to make mass spearmen in lategame?

Camels+spears is not a good combo so I understand that you have problems with that. Camels are pretty weak in combat, only for raiding.

It is very game-dependent, but as Isis it typically goes something like this:

Axemen (to deal with infantry)
Spears (best counter to helepolis)
Priests/Chariots/SoO (range support)
Mummies (vs myth)
Catapults
Merc (always needed)

Then you mix in some Elephants & Siege Towers. They absorb a lot of damage from toxotes. And they are hard to kill so your support units will have time do a lot of damage.

Typically, elephants are your main melee unit going into lategame. But at some point you will just run out of population and its better to transition into axemen/spears. At that point you should hopefully have all the armory ups because that is needed for the barrack units.

So spam everything, except camels.

u have rhino skin villagers and merc, helepolis should nt be problem that much , if u cant abuse merc vs greek like its back tc and until merc reach greek base get old , have in mind only wonder
