QUOTE(avragerider @ Aug 14 2014, 10:32 PM)

There has been one incident in sweden that I know of where this quota thing has happend. The firefighter department chose to lower the phycial strenght requirement for their physical test. According to one firefighter, the physical tests are specially designed for men. Naturally, men have easier for building muscle mass and therefore physically stronger. So for women this was a very difficult test to pass. Since there were so little women in the field, they chose to lower it.

Peoples lives depend on firefighters which is why I find this disturbing on one side. There should be a rule overall that IF you are able to meet the standards THEN you may pass the test. However, this doesn't mean the women should be excluded from this whole field because there are plenty of other work they can do within the firefighter department, without the physical strenght need and risking peoples lives.

"so if you try tell me that a female dominated profession in a female only school is oppressing women from going into degrees like Engineering Business etc then I'm just going to laugh at you."
- Ermm... Where did I ever mention that?

Let me put it this way, if I was paralized from the neck down I wouldn't demand a job as a building constructor and call it "unfair" when they wouldn't let me work there.
That's hopefully what any sensible person would think.

I am not saying women are opressed, or badly treated or whatever. I am stating that no matter your gender, background or skin color, you should have equal rights/salary/work opportunity as someone with the same knowledge, qualifications and education and who works AS much as you do.

I wasn't saying you said that, i was explaining the difference in numbers of male/female in the degrees chosen which in itself explains the pay gap. People would then naturally argue with me that getting into those educations is hard because they're told they can't at school, I was just covering myself from that response.

The pay gap is a reasonably bullpoopie claim that doesn't account for many factors. Pay varies so much in professional careers, and like I said it's illegal to paid differently for doing the exact same job because of gender or race or any outside variable. So there's obviously other reasons women are paid less and that exists in the jobs and positions they hold.

Your firefighter thing is a load of crap, you worded it in such a way that you were making males out to be the bad guys, purposely trying to exclude females. I dunno how that even sounds remotely right because most people I know want more girls around.

The strength test wasn't designed to eliminate females, it was designed under guidelines of what a fit human should be able to achieve in rescue scenarios. There are female firefighters, just less of them because overall women are weaker than men. The requirements for being a firefighter are equal for everyone. Anyway the amount of money bog standard firefighters make is equivalent to what most women can make on single mum benefit anyway.

Just like at my work, I'm a lifeguard we actually have a very high percentage of female lifeguards (more than males) but more females fail the training program because they cannot pull a 80 kg person out of the water, or keep an 80 kg person stable enough during a spinal operation. Obviously it's physically not that hard and most of the girls used to swim or play water polo so they can do it, but less sporty males pass more over less sporty females because they're stronger.

Anyway I didn't see you mention the workplace death rate for males compared to females before you started bitching about how women should be 'allowed' to be firefighters. Which is kinda similar to the pay rate debate, it doesn't take into account that more males do jobs like mining, logging, workshop with machines etc.

See all the dumb males do jobs like or are homeless that while dumb females get on the benefit or are strippers. This is the thing the pay gap argument only really applies to the top earners. Take anyone on under 25 dollars an hour and you'll find none of this poopie exists. Those people make up a decent amount of the population.

Unless you're asking for secretaries to earn as much as the lawyer then the paygap wont change, females need to attain a more driven attitude to education and work if they want to close the pay gap. They don't have to, you chose how you live your life, which all wins back up to how males and females define themselves as a person. A man has to prove his worth.

As long as there's 3/10 women taking work as their main thing in life and 7/10 males they pay gap wont change.

it's like expecting new zealand to do as well as america in the olympics.

Don't know if its even worth starting a new thread on this since you clearly have difficulties reading or understanding what I have written. I suggest you start reading your own quote. "Your firefighter thing is a load of crap, you worded it in such a way that you were making males out to be the bad guys, purposely trying to exclude females."
I hope you are joking, and if you're not, im worried about your reading comprehension.

My quote is: "According to one firefighter, the physical tests are specially designed for men. Naturally, men have easier for building muscle mass and therefore physically stronger. So for women this was a very difficult test to pass. Since there were so little women in the field, they chose to lower it." To make it even easier for you, everything I wrote within the quotation marks was according to HIM (the firefigher, and also chief of the firefighter department in sweden.) not ME.

You basically changed my quote by putting words in my mouth, and simply ignored my further quote which stated: "Peoples lives depend on firefighters which is why I find this disturbing on one side."

If you want me to point out all the biased and false claims you have made, and you have made plenty, I could. But I just don't know if its worth it.
