hey guys my graphix card is pretty crap. Was wondering if anyone knew any good sites (or links for me even better)for video cards that are relatively cheaper than if i was to walk into a storet. Im really looking for a card in the 4000 series, preferably 256 but 128 is fine also. Also i hear Radeon is generally the better way to go vs Nvidia (as it is cheaper), if thats even true. Ive been lookin on a couple of sites such as newegg, CDW, and tigerdirect. I really dont know a lot about video cards so any info provided on the subject is appreciated. I Would like to shoot for high graphics option on sc2, but moderate will do. Thanks in advance steve if anyone has any direct links to specific cards then that would be awesome as well. |

First of all it's important to know the rest of your pc equipment such as motherboard, processor and intern memory, not to forget about the power supply (how much Watt?) If you're PC consists of PCI-e slots (that's the newest generation slots for graphic cards on your motherboard), than you're able to plug&play the latest cards such as ATi/AMD Radeon cards mentioned above. The way to go is knowing what processor(cpu) you have, in order to find out if it's not a bottleneck. In addition you need to know how much intern memory you have, everything from 2 GBs or up is fine. DDR2-800MHz or DDR3-1333MHz will do I guess. To go for save, IF you motherboard supports the latest PCI-e slots (2.1 is latest, 2.0 is most used atm), it still depends on what resolution you're playing at. Everything 21inch or larger will need a bit better than 19 inch or smaller. Guessing you have 21-24inch somewhere and your CPU won't be very high-end packed with 4-8gigs or more (so we're saying, an mediocre CPU with 21-24inch screen and 2 GBs or memory) get a GTX460, it costs around 200 dollar/euro, but is the best price-performance choice at the moment. I prefer GTX460 above HD5850 as 5850 (the ATi/AMD Radeon card) is more expensive (230 dollar/euro or so) and performs slightly worse in most benchmarks. GTX460 with 768MB memory will be best, and cheapest (seen it for approximately 180 dollar, the 1GB version costs roughly 200 and doesn't perform a lot better). If you want to spend less, get HD5770 for about 140 dollar/euro, if you want to go even lower, get 5750 (for about 100 I think) or even 5670. I advice you to take HD5770 or GTX460, depending on what you can miss on money. GL with your choice :) |
