RTS-Sanctuary _ SoulStorm General Discussion _ Soulstorm Race Unlocker

Posted by: Belial2003 Mar 11 2008, 10:35 AM

In the last 2 nights I wrote a little application, which pretty much works the same way as the DCUnlocker made by Bilge.

You only need Soulstorm installed and it should work fine (hopefully).

I tested it under
Windows XP SP2 Prof 32bit
Vista Business 32bit (with and without SP1)
Vista Business 64bit (Unlocker Version 1.1)

Pls give me feedback (beer would be fine too *g*)

If there are any troubles some hints:
1) if you have used the DC Unlocker before, go to your Soulstorm directory and delete the following files IF they have no icons and 0 bytes: W40k.exe W40kWA.exe and DarkCrusade.exe (in fact you can delete them anyway, but it doesn't matter, if they are really the original exe from previous DoW versions)
2) if you have messed with your registry before (without properly knowing, what you are doing), fix it or simply reinstall Soulstorm and run the Unlocker again
3) If you get the error "/GraphicsConfig.exe could not be found..." and reinstalling Soulstorm does not help, then try the http://www.file-upload.net/download-1135618/SSRaceUnlocker-v1.0.rar.html. I have no idea, why some people have a directory named "Wow6232Node" in their registry, which should only be existant in the 64bit version of Windows, and 'cause of the serious lack of received beer, i'm too lazy to update it.

EDIT:
v1.1 released, should now work smoothly with Vista 64bit, if you run it as admin

Update for Vista and Steam-Users
If you run Vista, Soulstorm probably won't start with admin permissions, resulting in an invalid CD-Key Dialog (although the keys are there and correct of course).
Solution: Start Steam (or Soulstorm, if you own the retail version) with right-click-> run as admin.
Easiest way for steam-users is deactivating the auto-start of steam and create a shortcut on your desktop.

hmm does'nt work for me? says invalid keys?

Posted by: Belial2003 Mar 12 2008, 11:40 AM

If you had any previews versions of installed (Classic, WA, DC) you have to enter the same keys.
Also take care when entering them in the programm; it has to be like
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

a Framework is a kind of library with all kinds of predefined functions and objects, which are regularly used my many apps (including mine, as you could see), check out wikipedia, if you want a full explanation ^^
Edit: take the link of Count Auts to get it, he linked to a more recent version.
or hit google with "framework download", should do the deal.

Your a god, I was just saying (moaning) yesturday, how pants it was u have to waste all that extra space installing the other games just to get the unlock screen.

actually i thought, win xp 64bit got some compatibility mode for 32 bit apps.
Well, the build attached in this post now should be for 64bit Windows, but it is UNTESTED (i don't have any 64bit Windows at hand) so you use it at your own risk (which counts for the original version as well btw).
Tell me, if it works pls.

Posted by: Mu0n Mar 17 2008, 01:19 PM

Does't work for me. I'm under Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I get a popup dialog of an unhandled exception, "Could not find file "\GraphicsConfig.exe". I have placed your program in my base soulstorm directory and run it from there (\program files (x86)\steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war - soulstorm"

I have the retail versions of DoW Gold (original + WA), retail version of Dark Crusade and Steam version of Soulstorm.

Could you please tell me what your program is doing so that I can repeat the steps in the registry? I know that I can't follow the instructions intended for WinXP, as it doesn't share the same registry structure that is created in Vista.

sleep.gif there seem to be a lot of troubles with Vista 64bit Systems, have you also tried the build in this thread, which _should_ be optimized for 64bit Systems (it goes untested from my side tough).
As for the GraphicsConfig.exe, it usually comes with the installation of Soulstorm, dunno for the Steam-Version though. If it is in your directory, just copy it three times and name the copies "W40k.exe", "W40kWA.exe" and "DarkCrusade.exe". With that you did exactly the same what my app does with the GraphicsConfig.exe file.
As for the writing registry part, maybe the app has worked, dunno so try. If you want to do it manually, their are guides around at the forum of relicnews.
Or you download the published sources of my application from http://dow.4players.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=20108

-I have tried your 64-bit before I made my first reply - didn't work.
-I just tried to clone my graphicsconfig.exe 3 times and rename them - didn't work.

Still get the same exception dialog.

A user named GiT on relicnews build according to one of his posts a 64bit version of his own unlocker, you may try that one:

Ok, I've done it successfully myself (manually). Perhaps it could inspire you to do a vista 64 friendly version.

Here are the steps that *I* did (do not repeat those unless you want to go to the trouble of installing everything, which is what people are trying to avoid)
1) install all the games
2) Exported the registry structures for DoW Gold and DoW DC in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/THQ
3) modified some info in the .reg files this created
4) copied darkcrusade.exe, wh40k.exe, wh40kWA.exe and WinterAssault.exe to my soulstorm folder (not sure if this is needed at all)
5) uninstalled DoW Gold and DoW DC
6) double clicked on the 2 .reg files I made
7) should work

Now here are the steps that *you* (plural) should do:
1) only have Soulstorm installed
2) "maybe" make mock copies of darkcrusade.exe, wh40k.exe, wh40kWA.exe and WinterAssault.exe into the soulstorm folder (not sure if this is needed and if it would work)
3) download the .reg files attached to this post (they are saved as .txt files; change their extension to .reg)
4) *WARNING WARNING* there are several lines to change in both of these files. Do not install them (by double clicking on them) before you've edited them with notepad. In Dow.reg, you have to enter your first two cd keys (for dow original and dow winter assault) AND modify the InstallLocation line to where soulstorm is installed on your comp. In dowdc.reg, you have to enter your cd key and also put your soulstorm location as the InstallLocation. I have marked those lines with my own instructions within the quotes (i.e., FILL IN THE BLANKS, DON'T FORGET HYPHENS )
5) double click both .reg files
6) soulstorm should have all unlocked races (given valid keys of course).

its hardly screwing, only a moron could break thier computer by editign one key in the SS section of your registry >.>

Posted by: Lor Jun 13 2008, 03:36 AM

IIRC you will need to keep the exe files for the races to remain unlocked.

No you don't. The Unlocker creates fake ones, you only need the original exe from Soulstorm.
And if you uninstall DoW, WA and DC, exactly nothing bad should happen but IF you get some ingame error message, saying "blabla not properly installed blabla" just run the unlocker again, it fixes the registry.

jeeezzz, this is getting annoying.
This app just makes it possible to play all 7 Races of DoW (SM, CSM, Eldar, Ork, IG, Necron, Tau, DE, SoB) with only Soulstorm installed.
There are no secret races, no alt+f4 panzer elite, no Relic race of ridiculousness (ok, eldar maybe) etc.
Sorry to have all your dreams destroyed.

Posted by: z0M Dec 5 2008, 09:33 AM

no no your wrong . .dont listen to him

if you complete the Campaign with all races on the hardest mode you unlock the following races
- Panzer Elites
- fOrks
- Gondor
- GimPs

im not teling you the rest find our for yourself . .
+ nerf fOrks

Posted by: Saaz Dec 5 2008, 09:36 AM

You must beat campaign with all races on every difficulty to unlock Tyranids.

And the shield from boredom.

I only have soulstorm installed - i can play all of the races, so I've no idea what you're talking about.

So the unlocker only works after you have beaten the game with every race on max difficulty?
Some races I don't like playing. So this will do me no good.
Thanks though,

GOD DAMNED, THIS IS STARTING TO PISS ME OFF!!!

either you have already used the unlocker, have installed all versions of dow though your claim OR you found out, that you can play all races in single player, but never bothered about trying in MULTIPLAYER!!!!

Got it now? -.-

Why would THQ add those races and hide them?  There is a whole campaign for the hidden races?
*

jeeezzz, this is getting annoying.

Unfortunately the link Bilge provides redirects to a DoW2 site. Any other options? Yes, I've tried Google.

At the time I tried all those links in that thread, which was about a week ago, none of them worked. Thanks for looking through it again.

Posted by: Belial2003 May 1 2009, 05:04 PM

Hopefully in the Registry, I have never checked the Steam version.
Should be at HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\THQ\

Posted by: FuzzyFizzy May 2 2009, 11:57 AM

thanks for you help anyway

Posted by: FarOut Jul 1 2009, 11:56 AM

Worked perfectly for me biggrin.gif Now I can uninstall the other dow games I don't need and free like 10gb of hard drive space. awesomeness!

Posted by: The_Mighty_Necron_Army Dec 26 2009, 01:37 AM

Thank you for this simple effective app. EB had Soulstorm half marked price, which made it $13, and now I have all the races, again, thankyou!

Hi Guys,

I just got a new computer with windows 7 and after installing SS I tried using Belial's race unlocker and after I entered the keys I got the following message:

QUOTE
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you clock continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Access to the registry key

And here is what is in the "details":

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Anyone know how I can resolve this??

Thanks!

Have you tried running the unlocker as administrator?

yeah I tried but I have no idea how to do that. when i right click on it there is no option to open as admin...

Posted by: Dr. Becks Mar 14 2010, 02:10 PM

This happened to me when i loaded the game tru the steam, i got same error. I downloaded race unlocker and saved it on my comp. Than you click on unlocker icone and you open it as admin. That solved the problem for me. If you don't see the option "open it as admin" than it won't work. I'm not sure if it works with windows 7.

Posted by: Belial2003 Mar 14 2010, 02:30 PM

the unlocker works with windows 7 (and with the steam version of ss), i used it myself.
If you don't have the option "run as administrator", than maybe you really don't have an admin account for yourself but a standard restricted user acc?

Posted by: S1L3NC3-dows Mar 14 2010, 02:59 PM

I had same problem with my w7, ran as admin and still nothing. In the end I decided to just re-install xD

Posted by: USA_Pitbull Mar 15 2010, 05:38 PM

I got it to work. All I had to do was drag the file from WinRAR to my desktop and from the desktop icon you can right click and select "run as administrator" and it worked perfectly.

THANKS BELIAL2003! Are you in USA by any chance?

Posted by: Belial2003 Mar 16 2010, 05:40 AM

no, i'm sitting across the ocean in Austria, Europe.

Thank you for this, I've had so much trouble all the other times I've installed this game. This is seriously the first time it's gone this smoothly. I literally made an account here just to reply.

Hello wraith, you can also use your account to download some replays, but beware ones posted by usa_pitbull - they are lowskill and boring.
