There seems to be alot of fuss about the Iranian election, and correct me if I'm wrong but the president has little to no legislative power-- most of it resides in the Guardian consul with the Ayaltollah, namely Khomeni. So does it really matter who wins the popular vote if the theocratic rulers control all the real power and do more than just be a public figurehead? |

I doubt many Westerners understand Iran well enough to answer your question. Perhaps those who have lived in Iran might be be able to provide a better idea. Nonetheless, I will offer my flimsy opinion. It clearly does matter. Power is, as any student of history knows, a fickle thing. It can dissipate and concentrate on the flick of a dime. I believe that Khomeni's behavior in this matter has weakened his grip on power. By removing himself from the seclusion befitting a religious mystic and loudly backing good old ALheminhad (Super wrong spelling, to lazy to look itup), he places himself on the level of the politician. |

Imo the funniest part is that Iran had a democracy (from what I have read) and we (the US) destroyed it, and put the Shah (back) in power. And I have read Mossavi (sp?) isn't a great leader either, it isn't like Iran will be moving from one horrible leader to a great leader like we did here (in the US) with the transition from Bush to Obama. 0_o /sarcasm (I love putting things in parenthesis) |

There is no way the Ayatollah Khamenei will consent to Mousavi becoming the president. Ahmadinejad is anti-American, and Mousavi is less so. By that simple reasoning things will not be allowed to change. Remember that Khamenei entered politics in 1979, at the time of the revolution and considerable anti-American feeling. That has not changed since then. |
