Hi y'all,

I'm having this issue with my surface pro 3 and I cannot get aot work on my device so I figured if I'm gonna ask someone for help why not ask it here :down:

I just copy paste the message I wrote on reddit:

"I'm having the same issue with the same device (surface pro 3 i5 with 4GB of ram).
I've gone through all the compatibility modes, the resolution reset and the .gfx file correction (with geforce3) but I'm still getting the blackscreen at launch with the screen at a low-resolution and the cursor. Also I cannot load the cinematic intro and a moviePlayer.exe error pops up now.
I should note that I'm having this problem when I tried to reinstall AoT after a big update. Before that update I installed the game, had the same blackscreen problem (with the cinematic intro actually working), but I solved it just with the compatibility troubleshooting and with MSXML 4.0 downloaded.
Cannot figure out a solution for this. Hope you can help me
(I have directx 12, intel graphic driver, 3Dacceleration on)"

this is the link of the reddit page for reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/AgeofMythology/com..._surface_pro_3/

Hope you can help me! I don't really mind playing on EE which works just fine but there's this non-dm tournament next month on voobly and hopefully I will be able to play it :sweet:

try this :)
1. navigate to the startup folder Age of Mythology\startup)

2. Create a new text document in that folder and open it

3.
xres=1024
yres=768
bpp=32

Paste this and change the numbers so it matches the resolution of your monitor. Mine is 1024 by 768 with 32 bit color.

4. Save it in the folder as "All Files" and name is user.cfg. (Make sure you select All Files so it becomes a .cfg file.)

5. Now try starting the game.
it maybe can work :) for you

I tried that so many times but it won't work ...
I'm starting to think this issue has something to do with directx 12 and that was prolly installed during the update I mentioned before... That's why it worked before the update

A friend of mine isn't able to get aot work either (same problem) and he has dx12... Maybe the original age of mythology has become too obselete now :(

Nevermind.. I eventually solved it
Having win10 I had to make hidden folders visible in the Windows (C:) and navigated to this location (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology - The Titans Expansion\Diagnostics). There I launched aomx.exe via Safe Video mode and tweaked with the resolution settings...
:)

Oh anyways I'll have some troubles entering the in-game lobby cuz the main menu still crushes sometimes but the game itself seems to run fine.

(it says the graphic hardware blocks aomx.exe but just sometimes, dunno why)
