Here is a step by step guide to download, install and properly launch all the Fan patches for TAD. Since it may be a little confusing, please read carefully every part of the guide. To begin with, please note that: - fan patches chronological order is: 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 1.2 - 1.0 and 1.1 require ES 1.01a to work, while 1.1a and 1.2 require TAD 1.02 or later. - ES 1.01a and other official patches are mutually exclusive and get overwritten on each other. Fan patches are instead toggeable through the patch launcher. - the major difference between the 2 official patches is that the first requires the CD to run the game, while the latter doesn't. Therefore FP 1.0 and 1.1 require the CD too. That said, follow this procedure and you will be able to launch any patch and watch any TAD rec. 1) Download all the patch files you need. FP 1.0 FP 1.1 FP 1.1a FP 1.2 + patch launcher v.18 ES 1.01a (choose the correct language of course). 2) Be sure to have the latest official patch installed (currently TAD 1.03). 3) Install the FP 1.2. This one, along with the patch files, will also provide the newest patch launcher (v.18). With that you will be able to toggle through all your patches except the ES 1.01a. At this point of the procedure you can already switch from the TAD 1.03 to the FP 1.2 and viceversa at any time. 4) Extract the FP 1.0, 1.1 and 1.1a folders and put them in user/documents/mygames/ageofempires3/fanpatches. By this stage you can already find all your patches listed in the launcher but you can only properly run TAD 1.03, FP 1.2 and FP 1.1a 5) Now comes "the trick" to launch the FP 1.0 or FP 1.1. Install the old ES 1.01a patch and insert the CD of the game. Now you can launch FP 1.0, FP 1.1 and ES 1.01a. You now have all the patches settled and can use all of them. Just keep in mind that the newest fan patches work with TAD 1.03 while the older fan patches work with ES 1.01a. As I mentioned the ES 1.01a and the TAD 1.03 patch are mutually exclusive, meaning you can only have one of them installed at time. For this reason they're not toggleable through the launcher but must be manually installed everytime. The installation is completely reversible and only takes 1 click and 5 seconds. I hope to have been clear enough explaining the whole thing. This post has been edited by Garja: Jun 10 2014, 03:52 PM |

QUOTE(TemplateKing @ Apr 22 2014, 08:32 PM) QUOTE("Garja") insert the CD of the game I bought the game from Steam. Does this mean I have to launch the game from Steam after doing the install or what? Old patches (ES 1.01a, FP 1.0, FP 1.1) contain a .exe that asks for the CD. I guess the .exe automatically checks the CD unit so Steam users should not be able to launch those patches. I'm not 100% sure tho. You can try installing the ES 1.01a patch and launching the game with patch launcher. If it asks for the CD then you just need the CD or an ISO image of it to use with a virtual disk unit (eg Daemon Tools) |

Are you saying I can switch between RE 1.03 and ES 1.01a? Also: Does this mean there are essentially two leagues (ES+FP1.0+FP1.1 and RE+FP1.1a+FP1.2) of recorded games, which are mutually exclusively watchable with their respective patch-leagues? So how much work do I need to make someone else perform if I wanted to make my own patch? |

Not much. You would just put it in the fan patches folder like the rest of the patches. |

If it's just changing unit stats you can just use notepad afaik. I once managed to remove snare from the game doing that ya know. The game was so fluid with that gone, though Cav would have needed a nerf to stats generally speaking, obviously. |

Snare as in melee slowing on attack? Wouldn't that require buffing cavalry?? This post has been edited by Carlibengarli: Jun 1 2014, 08:24 AM |

Yah I'd gotten rid of that. :D long time ago though I would have to relearn which thinger it was in. actually, come to think of it, I might have used a program to do that. I think I had to do some editing of a .bat file maybe? You need a third party program for that. My memory is really hazy on this one. I know that the folks at HG gave me tips to get it done. I also think that I stopped caring after a few days since you had to manually replace files (you couldn't use FP launcher) to switch between the IP and the normal game. Edit: no I think it would have required a cav nerf, because raids are so much more efficient since it's hard to lose cav with snare gone. Cav still did their job in a straight up fight and with their speed they'd still chase down retreating RI units. So yeah I'd think a nerf would be in store here. Though only actual play testing would tell imo. This post has been edited by Incog: Jun 1 2014, 08:28 AM |

That's a good point, but the snare is also an advantage for cavalry. |

It's a hard call either way that requires play testing before any real conclusions can be established in my opinion. Snare is an integral part of Aoe3 as it is. ^^ |
