Hey everyone, im making this topic because i have been talking to Axe about IRO lately and tried to play with him but keep getting Failed to Join xD . so i make this topic to show the way to play IRO. I will explain the best strategies with IRO, show "steps," and provide RECS vs the computer to show the strat in play.

Useful hotkeys for all strats
Ungarrison units from TC: i use "A". this is useful for anytime, especially the start, to move vils through the TC quickly instead of walking around the TC

Convert guardians/sharpshot: i use "A" again, this is nice to quickly take out treasure guards.

Range attack command: i use "A" once again so that it works with sharpshot in case the explorer is in my army. greatto use when switching back and fourth from melee to range

Melee units command: i use "S" (because i use "A" is for ranged attack and sharpshot). This is extremely useful especially for tomahawks or muskets vs CAV. this is because cav have ranged armor and muskets have a higher attack vs cav in melee and this helps you switch much faster. MOST USEFUL HOTKEY IMO

Attack move command: i use "Z". this helps so you dont have your army run past enemy cav or accidently into enemy base. the units stop and attack once enemy units are in LOS.

There are three strong strats with IRO:
RUSH
The Rush is one of the best out there and many top players get to top ranks by doing this strat and just repeating. The key is to hit your enemy hard and VERY early. I stress the phrase "very early" because you aim to hit your enemy with your military units before they reach age 2, meaning you have your barracks set up from the travios and units shipped before they are age 2.

Age 1 start:
gather starting food crates and wood crates and send WC to immediately build a TP
scout with starting travios to find 2nd and 3rd hunts, then build house with trav when close to hitting pop limit
bring in 1-2 hunts outside your TC range into your tc range
continue bringing in hunts and click age up politician "Fast Age" with 16 or 17 vils (prefer the 16 for a faster rush)

Age 2:
Hitting age 2, use trav to make War Hut at forward base (prefer around enemy 2nd or 3rd hunt)
MAKE SURE TO CLICK RAX AS SHIPMENT POINT (hint: you can send shipment/BB in anticipation of rax getting up in time for a faster rush)
send as 1st age 2 shipment 4 cav or 6 tomahawk depending on the enemy civ, if you expect xbows or skirms, send 4 cav, if not i would send 6 toma
send the Big Button from TC (send 5 tomas)
make tomas from then on and send 7 anneas and other military from then to kill the enemy, mix making annea and toma so that combined with shipments you will have enough toma to kill cav and buildings

Military FF
The Military FF is very strong and widely used also. Simply, the idea is to FF quickly and spam units, mostly the strong Forest Prowlers , and quickly overwhelm the enemy with a mass of units very early. It is somewhat like a rush in that respect.

Age 1 start:
gather starting food crates and wood crates and send WC to immediately build a TP
scout with starting travios to find 2nd and 3rd hunts, then build house with trav when close to hitting pop limit
bring in 1-2 hunts outside your TC range into your tc range
continue bringing in hunts and click age up politician "Resources (food/wood/gold crates)" with 15 or 16 vils
while aging send a few (3-4) vils on to gold if you havent gathered 300g from treasures.


Age 2:
collect the crates and send 600g card immediately
move travios to center of map and place a War Hut (if you feel he may rush, place at your base)
once crates arrive, collect and age with politician "Fast Age"
while aging send a few (3-6 , depends if you plan to make tomas) vils to wood to make houses

Age 3
when hitting age 3 make another War Hut with your new travios
from here, ship toma then FP then more toma and whatever you feel from then on
eventually when gettinga lot of toma i get their upgrade at the rax and when i have RES i use the 3 BB techs at the TC for additional support in battle

ECO FF
The Point of the ECO FF is to use the advantage of IRO early military mass in age three plus the support of a strong economy at home from vil shipments. This strategy is mush less popular but my personal favorite. I believe this is the strongest overall strat for IRO.

Age 1 start:
gather starting food crates and wood crates and send WC to immediately build a TP
scout with starting travios to find 2nd and 3rd hunts, then build house with trav when close to hitting pop limit
bring in 1-2 hunts outside your TC range into your tc range
this is where it begins to get different from the last strategy, you can age fast OR age with RES crates (i usually go with the RES age up for the gold crate
continue bringing in hunts and click age up politician "Resources (food/wood/gold crates)" with 15 or 16 vils
while aging send a few (3-4) vils on to gold if you havent gathered 300g from treasures.


Age 2:
collect the crates and send 5 VIL card immediately
i use the travios as defense or forward base depeding on enemy civ
place a War Hut forward, or if you feel he may rush, place at your base
once vil card arrives, send 4 VIL card and age with politician "Fast Age"
HINT: use the advantage of sending cards and going over pop limit, make sure your pop is 1 below the limit(from having vils qued) and then send your vil cards, you can cancel vils at TC if needed, but it lets you avoid idle TC time
while aging send a few (3-6 , depends if you plan to make tomas) vils to wood to make houses

Age 3
here, the strat turns to be like the Military FF
when hitting age 3 make another War Hut with your new travios
from here, ship toma then FP then more toma and whatever you feel from then on
eventually when gettinga lot of toma i get their upgrade at the rax and when i have RES i use the 3 BB techs at the TC for additional support in battle

All of these strats can take you to hte top. The key is to know what strat to use and when -- vs what civs

Good write up, iro rush is so lame but effective :teehee:, in the third game I have played in probably 2 years I used it against a FF'ing 1st lui in unrated, and after I hit him with the BB and 1st card, I left to go grab a glass of water, came back ~ 2 mins later, and still managed to beat him.

What are you using for anti cannon in fortress if you FF? I find most people have been doing a semi FF if they see I'm going FF, and then they just ship 2 cannon, and make 2-3 more after aging. I've been going this weird semi FI strategy using the 1200 crate, then sending 4 cannon, but it just feels to risky in my opinion. Honestly I have no idea what my best option is to take out cannon in age 3. Mantlets/Musket Riders? Or is aging the only option?
