The 2018 RTS-Sanctuary Winter Tournament has begun! As a quick review, the tournament will be broken up into two stages, a group stage that will run from today, 12/12 to 1/1 and a bracket stage in January. Since there were 24 sign-ups instead of 32, that leaves one less bracket round, therefore we are giving the group stage one additional week. Players were seperated into European and American (South and North) groups for some extra competition (and easier scheduling). As a quick note, Mor and Uberbro were the only 'worldwide' entries, sorry fellas. We are still holding out for 1 sign-up to be placed in Europe B, if anyone still wants to sign-up. Players in that group can just start scheduling as normal now. Group Stage Rules The two players with the most points in each group advance. Players receive 1 point for a 'home' win and 1.5 points for an 'away' win. So basically, 2 away wins are equal to 3 home wins. Each match, Player A (decided alphabetically) picks their god and their homemap. Then, Player B selects their god. It is reversed for the second game. Game 1 would be considered a 'home' game for Player A. Matches are 2 games. Matches can be scheduled here: http://www.rts-sanctuary.com/The-Titans/showforum=615 Replays should be posted here: http://www.rts-sanctuary.com/The-Titans/showforum=618 Don't forget to tune into the showmatch on December 16 at 17 GMT as well. We have Boit casting at least 3 showmatches on www.twitch.tv/rtssanctuary. The prize pool will be finalized by the 17th after the show matches. Stay tuned and good luck! Again, players have until January 1 to complete their 3 group stage matches. This post has been edited by [DoD]Hellsravage: Dec 12 2018, 10:24 PM |

You play everyone in your group. It doesn’t matter which order you play them in. Matches are 2 games - the rules of which are written above. You get an extra half point for beating someone on their ‘home’, the game where they pick the map and their god before you. Is anyone else confused by this? What? The only thing decided alphabetically is who is home first. Then, you’re away for the second game of the match. |

just double checking Each match, Player A (decided alphabetically) picks their god and their homemap. Then, Player B selects their god. It is reversed for the second game. Game 1 would be considered a 'home' game for Player A. Matches are 2 games. does this mean player B can counterpick player A's god? this imo would give advantage to player B on player A's home map. |

if u could counter civ and choose map it would be dumb. This way u can choose a map for ur god but u are open for counters. So just choose the map with that in mind |

So just choose the map with that in mind Yep pretty much this. Here is a quick example of a match. I play Fox in my group. F goes before H therefore Fox is home first. In game 1, Fox selects Isis and Marsh and as his homemap. Then, it is my turn to pick my god. In game 2, I select Zeus and Medi, then he picks his god. If I win game 1 or if Fox wins game 2, we each get 1.5 points for winning a slight uphill battle. As Player said, it makes the map selection strategic and important. If you select Isis and Marsh, you’re opponent could always go Loki. But maybe he doesn’t play Norse, so you’re safe :P @Hagrit. You’re right that this could happen. And it certainly gives a benefit to players who can play multiple civs. Picking the map correctly is important to protect yourself from a complete counter. I wouldn’t pick Ra and Oasis if I thought my opponent was a good Oranos player This post has been edited by [DoD]Hellsravage: Dec 14 2018, 11:27 AM |

Fair enough, it just didnt make sense to me how the favored player gets 1.5 from winning a potentally easier matchup (if he can counterpick correctly), but regardless its still balanced as the same scenario happens for the other player in the 2nd game. thanks for explaining |
